Singer-songwriter Jang Hyun-ho is the central figure of Gilganeun Band, formed in 2011. He has written nearly all of the band's lyrics and compositions himself, shaping Gilganeun Band's musical direction and message. Drawing on the characteristics of a street-style band, he has consistently participated in sites of social struggle, standing in solidarity through song. At countless scenes including the Sewol ferry disaster, the Gangjeong village struggle against the Jeju Naval Base, and the KTX dismissed flight attendants' reinstatement struggle, he has raised social issues through music and played a role in awakening a sensitivity to peace. Jang Hyun-ho's songs carry a sincere desire to connect the marginalized with ordinary people and to comfort sites of pain. Songs such as '75m Above' and 'We Will Shine Again' illustrate this musical philosophy well. Additionally, 'Seed Song,' included on Gilganeun Band's first full-length album, is the first song he ever wrote — encapsulating the reason the band sings — offering a glimpse into his musical beginnings and deep intentions. He handles vocals and acoustic guitar, and beyond writing and composing for albums, participates in choruses as well, playing a central role across all aspects of music production. The unique sound of Gilganeun Band deeply reflects Jang Hyun-ho's musical individuality. Jang Hyun-ho is a core singer-songwriter who delivers social messages.
